Congratulations! The hard part is done: you’ve found a house, you’ve bought it, and now you’re ready to move in.
The most enjoyable part is yet to come. The choice of furniture! So here are some basic items you’ll need to make your new home truly feel at home and so your guests will have a place to sit when they come over to play poker or Monopoly.
1. To sleep
This should be the first thing to check off your list, unless you want to spend the first few nights on a pile of sheets on the floor while the cat looks at you and seems to wonder why you’re not lying in a large comfortable bed.
Especially since moving is stressful and you probably won’t get it done in one day. At the end of the day, you’ll need a place to sleep, so start with your mattress, bed frame, and any other bedroom furniture you need to make your home feel comfortable.
2. To relax
Now that bedtime is settled, you will then want to take care of… your relaxation! You’re not going to spend all your time on your feet in your new apartment – at least, you shouldn’t – and you’ll need a place where you can relax.

That’s right, you also need to think about another important piece of furniture, the kitchen table, or at least something where you can eat. If it’s just you, you can get by with a small living room table, but if you have a family, then the kitchen table is a must.
Of course with the table, you also have to think about a place to sit. You must therefore provide chairs for the table, a few for the living room and probably others for the other rooms. Apparently it’s not very chic to ask your guests to bring their own seats.
5. Decorations and special touches
Now that you’ve taken care of the essentials, you can move on to the most fun part of all. That vaulted ceiling is perfect for a chandelier, isn’t it? Have you always wanted a large, fluffy purple rug? Go ahead, treat yourself.
Decorations and special touches will make your new home a place you truly feel at home. Place artwork – or posters – in frames, buy potted plants, install a cat tower and anything else that will make you happy.
